2022 // ASÍ ES

The anchoring pieces of the Así Es collection are made from materials with a visible history- felted wool, woven toquilla, and crocheted palm that were previously used are reshaped into something new. In reforming these materials, I left the traces of their previous experiences unhidden. Instead of trying to conceal the past, it becomes part of what makes each form more engaging, interesting, beautiful. The watermarks, irregular bends, frays and softened edges allow the viewer and wearer to acknowledge that these pieces are not “new” or “pure” in the way we have become accustomed when purchasing a garment or accessory. As the boundary between “new” and “old” becomes blurred, the wearer is encouraged to begin to add their own history to the pieces. By accepting a garment with history, we are connecting to the history of others, and ourselves joining a larger story.

All headwear from the 2022 Así Es collection are hand-blocked, one-of-a-kind pieces. Only 1-3 pieces per style have been made- each a little different from the next. Select styles have become part of L.E.S. and are also available as custom.
